Congratulations to the school’s Public Speaking team for securing their place on Radio Cymru’s program “Y Ddadl Fawr”. Garry Owen presents the program. The school competed against Ysgol y Preseli and the judges were Sian Lloyd, Dr Elin Jones and Gwyn Williams. It was announced at the end of the program that Bryn Tawe was the winner and so went on to the next round. Well done Caitlyn, Steffan and Nansi!
A group of year 9, 11 and Sixth form pupils had the privilege of seeing the play ‘Llyfr Glas Nebo’ at Pontardawe Theater in February. What a great experience!

The School Eisteddfod is one of the highlights of the School calendar. In our School there are 4 houses – Hopcyn, Crwys, Gomer and Gwyrosydd. Over the past few days pupils have been diligently rehearsing and refining their performances for the Eisteddfod. The competitions were, a song sung in a foreign language, story and sound, sketch and interpretation of a poem. This year’s song for the choir was ‘Yma o hyd’ following the success of the song in Apple’s recent charts. The winning house this year was Crwys. Congratulations to them!

Welsh Music Day
Friday the 7th of February was a special day! As part of the Welsh Music Day celebrations, a group of pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr were invited for a disco and had the opportunity to enjoy Welsh music at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe. Year 8 pupils loved to dance and socialise while listening to the music. Many thanks to both DJs – Nansi and Caitlin from Year 13 Bryn Tawe – for introducing the pupils to modern Welsh music. We look forward to next year!

Huge congratulations to our senior debating team of sixth formers for winning the district Rotary ‘Youth Speaks’ competition at Birchgrove school, prior to scooping the runners-up prize at Islwyn High School on the 8th February in the regional competition. It was a pleasure to see the team in action, with articulate and passionate presentations from Caitlyn, Steffan and Nansi, who were discussing the merits over whether or not Shakespeare should remain compulsory within the curriculum. Indeed, the students’ success caps a very successful contribution to the fields of public speaking and debating during their time at Bryn Tawe and we wish them well with their future endeavours. The team were coached by Mr Chris Shaw, Head of English.
