Well-being
The wellbeing of our learners is at the heart of all that we do at Bryn Tawe. We provide comprehensive support and guidance to learners with emotional, health and social needs. We have two dedicated areas within the school for this purpose.
Hafan (Sanctuary)
Hafan is our dedicated safe space for learners with social and emotional needs. It is designed primarily to support learners who are struggling with their mental health. Specialist support through internal and external provision is offered here including counselling, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support) sessions and EBSA (Emotional Based School Avoidance) sessions.
Perthyn (Belonging)
Perthyn is our dedicated safe space for learners with social and/or behavioural needs. Mentoring sessions with Pastoral Officers are held here. Here you will also find the offices of our committed Leaders of Learning and Head of Pastoral Care and Designated Safeguarding Officer, Mr Mark Bridgens.
Who is there to support me?
All members of staff at Bryn Tawe are always willing to listen to a learner’s concerns. Depending on the nature of that concern, the staff member will then communicate details to the most appropriate member of the Pastoral Team in order to ensure that the most suitable provision is provided for your child.
Should a parent wish to discuss a pastoral or wellbeing concern, please contact your child’s Leader of Learning. Their e-mail address can be found in your child’s contact book or contact the school via telephone on 01792560600 and ask for their Leader of Learning to get in touch. If you wish to discuss a mater directly with the Designated Safeguarding Officer please ask for Mr Mark Bridgens.
Bullying
Bullying is contradictory to the ethos of Bryn Tawe and will not be tolerated.
Every student at Bryn Tawe has the right be an individual, and has the right to be educated in a happy, stress-free environment. Pupils who are bullied by whatever means are unlikely to be happy in school, and are likely to be less successful. Through our robust Anti-Bullying policy, we promote respect and tolerance at every opportunity and continually remind our pupils that any bullying type behaviour is not tolerated at the school. We use school our inclusive curriculum, assemblies, mentoring sessions and special events such as Anti-Bullying week etc. to promote this message strongly.
We will adopt whatever means available to combat bullying. These methods may include:
verbal warning
restorative circles
the use of Anti-Bullying contracts
involvement of parents
the direct use of sanctions
interview by the school council.
Any incidents of bullying should be reported immediately by the pupil and/ or parents. You can do so by clicking on the button below.
