News from the Welsh Department


A group of Year 13 pupils went to see the Welsh film “Y Llyfrgell” in the Taliesin Theatre and enjoyed it greatly. During the same week, Year 12 and 13 pupils studying A Level Welsh had the opportunity to attend a day of lectures at Academi Hywel Teifi. Thanks to the Academi for organising several valuable lectures!

Once again this year, T.Llew Jones Day was celebrated with an assembly to remember him. In addition, a Treasure Hunt was organised for Year 7 and 8 during Welsh lessons.

A writing workshop was organised for a group of Year 10 boys in association with University of Wales Trinity Saint David as part of a new project. The Chief Bard Aneirin Karadog came to work with the boys for the day and to compose poems on the theme of war. There will be an opportunity for the pupils to read the poems in due course and to go to the University to see their poems displayed. Thanks to the University and to Aneirin Karadog for the day!

A Public Speaking competition was held for the school’s older pupils – various subjects were discussed, such as S4C, immigration, school uniform and independence for Wales. Congratulations to the pupils who took part: Sara Dafydd; Catrin Hedges; Lizzie Lewis; Claudia Hughes; Amelia Williams; Brandon Cooper; Steffan Leonard; Carys Thomas and Nansi Eccott. Sara, Catrin and Steffan will represent the school in the Rotary public speaking competition soon.
