Shakespeare’s Success

Once again this year the English Department has taken part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival. 18 pupils from year 10 and one from year 9 performed a 30 minute extract from the drama The Tempest in the Taliesin Theatre, Swansea, on Friday 16th November.

Following an auditioning process before the summer, the pupils practised Shakespeare’s work during after school sessions with Miss Comley. The pupils were keen to create a modern performance, and they updated the story to include the characters travelling on a plane instead of a boat at the beginning of the show.

Amongst the cast were pupils who have already taken part in a national Shakespeare performance competition with the ESU. Ffion Tomos played the part of Ariel and Anwen Morgan played the part of Antonio, the evil brother. Ashton Williams and Siôn Thomas, the winners of the ESU’s Best Duet Performance, took to the stage once again to play the roles of Ferdinand and Caliban.

We’d like to thank all the pupils for their commitment to this year’s project. They have worked very hard and it’s been a pleasure to work with Bryn Tawe’s enthusiastic and talented pupils once again. Thank you to Miss Comley for directing the project.
