Our Chairing Ceremony was held as a part of the school’s Saint David’s Day celebrations. Some of the school’s head pupils took the reigns, namely Chloe Steer (the deputy head girl) and Curtis Richards (the head boy).
This year, the judge was Mrs Rhian Edwards Jones, who is currently on maternity leave. We would like to thank her for all her hard work when judging the competition. It became clear that the standard of the competition was high and that judging it would not be an easy task!
‘Y Graig’ brought great pleasure to the judge. It was great to see Nel Richards from Year 13 getting up from her seat at the back of the full hall to receive the privilege of being the school’s Head Litterateur this year. Many congratulations to her. Caitlyn White and Steffan Leonard came joint second, and Heledd Owen and Nansi Eccott came joint third! The Welsh Department would like to thank everyone who competed, and especially the staff and pupils who took part in the ceremony – especially Rhys Watty, who accompanied on the harp, Kirsty Lewis, who sang the song for the chairing, Rachel Hadley, who played the fanfare, and Amelia Williams and Llew Wood, who sought the winner. It was also lovely to see representatives from each year, who were chosen for their commitment to Welshness in the school, on the stage.
Congratulations to Jack Thomas, who won the English Prize.
